Skills Library and Profilin
g (SLP) is a tool offered as a web service by It’s Your Skills. The principal objective is to improve the information flow and thus the efficiency of the Talentscape.
Here are the highlights of the Skills Library and Profiling.
One, it focuses on the essentials i.e. the skills and cuts out the text. This is important in today’s world when minimal text is the preferred norm of communication. Two, the front-end of the profiling application is intuitive and easy to use. Users have several paths to navigate the skills menu to map their skills.
The framework, catering to all functions and domains, has the potential to form a standard template that can be used in different contexts and by different players in the market.
For instance, it paves the way of presenting the profiles of everyone in a standard format using a common vocabulary instead of the current unstructured resumes.
The skills library aims to cover all domains and functions. The skills in the library already cover lot of ground in this respect. And this will keep getting richer. This implies that it is applicable for individuals across functions and levels
Over time, the demand for some skills decrease while newer skills come into vogue. It is therefore important that the skills library be constantly updated to meet its objective. We have a process in place to keep updating and enriching the library on a regular basis. The inputs for the inclusion come from
- a team which is working exclusively in understanding and mapping the market,
- technology tools for mining and parsing that apply NLP and Machine Learning and
- crowd or user participation.
We all know there are several dimensions to one’s skills. These may include one’s specialization, the skills in using tools and technologies, experience in a given domain, knowledge levels in principles and concepts and others. The SLP includes these and the skills are organized to get a holistic profile of skills of individuals. The beauty and meaning is the in the whole.
SLP is useful in several contexts. For example, it can be used for creating individual skills profiles or profiles of positions in companies. Further, it can be deployed to understand the skills landscape itself (like the atlas or map), help understand and plan to cover gaps in one’s skills, inventory skills of employees and many such.
We believe that the wide usage of SLP will help everyone in better growth i.e. better development of one’s skills and better engagement of these skills.
